the computer-aided analysis of these data with new tools from information science comprises the field of genomics/bioinformatics. our aim is to promote innovative quantitative biology, typically combining sophisticated technologies, quantitative measurements, advanced live cell imaging and computational approaches (such as bioinformatics, mathematical modelling and/or computer simulations) over the whole spectrum of the life sciences. the written exam in bioinformatics and the oral exam are administered by a faculty committee consisting of:Two bioinformatics program faculty.

requirements for each student in the phd program in bioinformatics include the successful completion of a set of core courses in biology, biochemistry, mathematics, and computer science, while the main emphasis of the program is on the successful completion of an original and independent research project. hours for courses in categories a, b, and c could be completed by previous graduate study (such as study in the georgia tech master's degree in bioinformatics program). students participating in the qbio honours programme will write their own phd proposal during the second year.

are currently several graduate courses in topics related to genomics/bioinformatics (for example, mb 668, genomics and cellular evolution). approval of transfer of credits from courses taken elsewhere is done by the bioinformatics graduate committee. the main section containing the research proposal (section 6) has a page limit of 10 pages.
please identify your supervisor(s) and promotor(s) on the first page, and make sure that they support this proposal. the written part has two sections, the bioinformatics section and an elective section chosen from written qualifying exam sections offered by one of the participating units (typically, but not necessarily, by the home unit). these will be awarded to the most talented students, with the best interdisciplinary training, having written the most exciting research proposal, and the best presentation, interview, cv, grades, and letters of recommendation.
